Wine of the Week!
Penfold's Thomas Hyland Chardonnay 2006   $12     Listen NowPenfold's Thomas Hyland Chardonnay Wine

OK.  Here’s our wine of the week choice and it will have you firing up the grill for some shrimp on the Barbie.  It’s Penfold’s Thomas Hyland 2006 Chardonnay from Australia.

This is a rich, tropical tasting Chardonnay that fits right in with shrimp and sea foods or your favorite summer chicken dishes.  It has flavors of ripe banana and pineapple, not to mention a squirt of lemon, and reminds me of summer sunshine and a warm summer breeze on my face!

It is definitely New World in style… that means a fair amount of oakiness along with the creaminess that gives it a full bodied taste.  That full bodied character is why it is such a good food wine.

But there’s more!

For about twelve bucks a bottle, and with wide distribution, the Penfold’s Thomas Hyland Chard makes all kinds of sense as your pick for everyday Chardonnay, a great reason on its own that it’s the wine of the week.

Winemaker’s notes and comments:

The Thomas Hyland range honors the pioneering spirit of Thomas Hyland, son-in-law of Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold, whose stewardship of the company from the late 1800s until 1914 saw the development of what, in his lifetime, became Australia's most famous name in wine.

Color: Pale Straw with fluorescent white hues.

Nose: The nose shows aromas of white stone fruit, a touch of lifted citrus fruit and a subtle complex oak/yeast derived character that draws you in.

Palate: A fine, elegantly styled palate with refreshing citrus acidity. The mid palate offers generosity of flavor consisting of white nectarines and nougat/crème caramel.

Food pairings: Ideal with chicken, seafood and salads

Past Recommendations, Picks, and Wines of the Week

Notes on our Wines of the Week, Recommendations, and Picks:

When you read our thoughts, please remember that you may think differently.  A particular wine may be your favorite and not on our list.  Well, don't stop buying it because of that.  In fact, you may want to email us and let us know about it. These are our opinions but our FIRST recommendation is to go by your own palate.

A couple of other thoughts . . . first, prices are approximate.  They'll vary.  Second, different vintages mean different grapes and different tastes so our recommendation for a 2000 Merlot may not hold for 2001.

And lastly, we remind you to drink responsibly!  Now, all that said, here is a summary of links to our suggestions.  Find one (or more) and pop the cork!

Read the fine print . . .

Wine consumption can have positive physical benefits or cause possible physical harm . . . the medical community is divided in some areas.  If you have any doubt, check with your doctor before consuming wine or any other alcoholic drink.

Our information is well researched.  Recommendations are based on our opinions at the time of publication.  At the same time, recommendations change.  Also, there may be significant variance in taste depending on storage, shipping, and other factors.
