Australian Blends
Australians are an independent minded
group about most things . . . including wine.
Aussie winemakers created some unique
blends of grapes to make interesting, ready to drinks wines.
Blending is common in winemaking but they brought us new style
in red and white.
For red it's a combo of Shiraz and
cabernet sauvignon.
The Shiraz tames some of the youthful
tightness of the cab. It's full flavored and stands up to heartier
foods.
For white they put Semillon with
chardonnay. Semillon is the grape in white Bordeaux and the
great Sauternes. Blended with chard it makes a wine that has
a rich feel in your mouth. It's particularly tasty with sea
foods . . . like that shrimp on the Barbie they're famous for.
Australians love wine for today with
lots of fruity flavor . . . so these don't disappoint.
A final tip . . . the grapes are
listed on the label by their amount in the blend.
Pop the cork™.
